Chevening scholarships
- Each year, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office offers outstanding graduates and young professionals the opportunity to study at universities in the UK under the British Chevening scholarship program.
The awards are made for one year's formal study for a postgraduate qualification or for a shorter period of not less than three months to pursue private study or research at a university or similar institution in Britain.
Aimed at the leaders of tomorrow, Chevening scholarships foster international links and enhance the bilateral relationship between Australia and the UK.
In Australia, the scheme is managed by the British Council and the British High Commission in Canberra. The British Council website provides details of the scheme and application procedures.
Chevening schlolarships are highly competitive and limited in number. Successful candidates are graduates with an outstanding record of achievement and clear leadership potential. They should be able to demonstrate that they have more to offer than their peers and contemporaries and that they have the potential and ambition to make a substantial, positive difference in their chosen field.
The awards cover full university tuition fees as well as a contribution towards living costs. The approximate value of scholarships is £20,000 each.
