Born after 1 January 1983, mother born outside the UK whilst her father was in British crown service and he was recruited in the UK

First time applicants are required to provide full original documentation together with a photocopy of each document.

What documents do I need to submit in order to apply in this category?

You should submit the following documentation:

  • A completed passport application form:
  • Passport fee; (we are unable to accept personal cheques, American Express, Diners Club or BankCard).
  • Two identical passport size photographs - one photo must be countersigned by the person who countersigns your application form.  The photograph standards required for biometric passports are higher than those needed for earlier types of passports.  If the photograph does not meet the standards required your complete application will be returned to you at your expense.  This could cause a long delay in processing your application.  (See links on right of page for standards of photographs required and also a suggested list of photographers)
  • Applicant's full birth certificate showing parents' names.*
  • Mother's birth certificate showing her parents' names.*
  • Mother's current UK passport.  If your mother does not have a British passport we will require your maternal grandfather's birth and marriage certificate.* 
  • Letter from Defence Records Office or relevant Government Department confirming your grandfather was recruited in the UK and was still in Crown Service at the time of your mother's birth.
  • One form of official photo identification (eg: photocopy (not original) of Australian passport, driving licence or student ID) or two other forms of identification (eg: photocopy (not original) of your Medicare card or an original (plus photocopy) of a bank, credit card statement, gas, telephone or electricity bill).  For applicants under the age of 16, we require their parents ID and a document which confirms the child's ID eg: letter from the child's school. 
  • Document used for first entry into Australia or if no longer available provide full written details.  (Only required if applicant was born outside Australia and is under the age of 16).
  • If you have changed your name by marriage we require your marriage certificate issued by the Registrar of Births Deaths and Marriages** OR your Deed Poll or Change of Name Certificate.  If name has been changed by usage forward completed Statutory Declaration.
  • A signed checklist confirming you have enclosed all the reqired documentation.

NOTES

*   For information on obtaining a British birth, marriage or death certificate
**  Marriage certificates issued by the Church or Celebrant on the wedding day are not acceptable. Divorce documents are not acceptable. Australian marriage certificates are available from the Registrar of Births Deaths and Marriages in the State in which the marriage took place.
