Applicant or father born in a colony

Eligibility for British passport facilities is not normally acquired through having a United Kingdom born grandfather unless your father was born in a place, which was a British Colony at the time of his birth.  Some examples of former British Colonies are Barbados, Bermuda, Cyprus, Fiji, Gilbert and Ellice Islands, Hong Kong, Jamaica, Kenya, Malacca, Malta, Seychelles, Singapore, Trinidad.

British nationality is a complex matter. Some guidance is contained within this website and in notes section of the C1 and C2 application forms, but we are unable to advise you of your entitlement to British nationality independently of a passport - or consular birth reg application. If you would like us to consider your case please complete the application forms. Please note fees not refundable, but we will explain fully if you fail to qualify for nationality.

You may be eligible for an Ancestry visa. This visa is placed in your current passport and allows you to live and work in the UK for four years. Please visit the visa section of our website for application forms and further information.
